As they say, "where have the years gone" ?
It does not seem possible that it was in 1944 my father took me, his 10-year-old son, to Abbott's Magic Company in Colon, Michigan and bought me ten or twelve beginner magic tricks. I was hooked and on my way! Four years later, I was performing my first public show as the great "Car-Me-Ve". Eventually I chose "Carl Karl" as my stage/professional name.   For many years, I presented an act of traditional magic that included music, drama, comedy and sleights. Then in 1994, after a fire completely destroyed my home and all contents--including all my magic apparatus--I established the act I still do today.......that being an act of fun, laughter and audience participation. Before the fire, I also performed a two-hour show, complete with sawing-in-half, levitation, and many other powerful illusions. I was proud that all my assistants were my children, in-laws and grandchildren.   I have had the pleasure of attending many magic gatherings and conventions--most notably Abbott's Magic Get Together, *Indiana Hoosier Convention, Columbus Magifest, *Central Illinois Magic Get Together, CAMaraderie Magic Convention Kitchener, Canada and the Knoxville Winter Carnival of Magic, Gatlinburg. Also the famous and historical Magic Castle, Los Angeles *Performer.    I have also had the extreme pleasure of meeting many wonderful people in the world of magic, both pros and otherwise. Some are just casual acquaintances and others have become life-long friends such as Dave Madden , of "Partridge Family" and "Laugh-In" fame. The art of magic is a rewarding profession and it has been good for me in more ways than one.
